Man wrestled to ground by traders after he knocks over pensioner during police chase through Bolton Market

A wanted man was wrestled to the ground by traders in Bolton Market after he knocked over an elderly lady while running away from police.

The suspect had got out of his car and entered the market in a bid to lose officers after they chased him in his Audi 3 car on Moor Lane on Friday.

As he ran through the stalls to avoid arrest, he shoved an innocent shopper - a woman in her 80s - to the ground.

The woman escaped uninjured, police said.

Market traders, including a card stallholder, joined in the foot chase as he weaved his way through the stalls.

The team managed to catch up with him and push him to the ground.

He was then detained.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, drug driving and money laundering.

He has been released under investigation.
