Man wounds, holds former wife hostage in car

A man surrendered to police after shooting and wounding his former wife and holding her hostage in a car for several hours on a major road in Krabi province on Monday.

Sayant Pimoldetkul decided to come out of the car only after their daughters talked him into giving up.

The drama began around 8am at the house of his former wife, Areerat, 46, in Muang district, when Mr Sayant, 47, fired two shots from a pistol, wounding her in the leg.

The aluminum worker then forced her to into her car and drove along Phetkasem road until police finally blocked it at an intersection in Nua Khlong district.

A section of the road was closed to traffic as police officers tried to convince him to surrender.

Pol Capt Witthaya Hulkul, duty officer of Muang police station, said about 50 police surrounded the Toyota Vios but Mr Sayant refused to give up and release the injured woman.

He finally let his former wife go after confining her in the car for four hours, but only after their daughters arrived from Trang province to talk to him. Ms Areerat was taken by ambulance to Nua Khlong Hospital.

Mr Sayant remained in the car alone for about another two hours, finally emerging and surrendering to police around 2pm. Police whisked him off to a patrol car to the provincial police headquarters.

Police were investigating, finding out why he hurt his former wife.
