Sun-Times file photo

A man was shot and wounded during an attempted robbery Thursday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The 31-year-old was approached by someone from behind in the 300 block of North Pulaski Road, Chicago police said.

The person placed a gun to the side of the man and said, “Give me your stuff,” according to police.

The man tried to knock the gun away, but it discharged about 1 p.m. and struck him in the leg, police said.

He took himself to the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, police said. He was listed in good condition.

Area North detectives are investigating.
