A man who was wounded in a mass shooting at a “pop-up party” Friday in Wrightwood will face a weapons charge after he was found lying on top of a gun, according to Chicago police.
Martinas Norvell, 28, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon after he was found with the gun about 12:20 a.m. in the 8200 block South Damen Avenue, Chicago police said.
Officers found Norvell lying on top of the gun in the backseat of a vehicle that was seen leaving the scene of a nearby shooting in the 2500 block of West 79th Street that left seven people wounded and a 27-year-old man dead, authorities said.
Norvell had suffered from a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken into custody after being hospitalized at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Several handguns were found at the scene of the shooting — a line of storefronts that include a daycare, salon and storefront church. St. Rita of Cascia High School is located across the street, according to police.
No arrests in connection with the shooting have been announced.
Norvell, who lives in West Chatham, appeared before a judge Saturday and was released on his own recognizance, Cook County court records show.
He is due back in court Friday.
