Man wore flip flops as he kicked partner on ground in terrifying attack

A nasty attack on a vulnerable woman involved her ex-partner kicking her in the head in flip flops. Marcin Piatek left his victim unconscious after kicking her and also punching her in the head with a clenched fist

When she came round, she got to her feet and left - but Piatek followed her, shouted abuse and grabbed her arms, Nottingham Crown Court heard on Thursday (February 17). He began twisting her arms but she broke free and police were called.

The woman, who had been in a realtionship with the defendant since early 2021, reported the assault to officers in Worksop on September 4, 2022. Piatek, 38, of Elms Road, Worksop, denied assaulting her, claiming she assaulted him.

And he pleaded not guilty to assault, causing bodily harm, but was convicted after trial, and sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years. Lucky Thandi, prosecuting, told the court the attack was on a vulnerable woman in her own home.

"It was somewhat prolonged, involving kicking to the head which she was on the floor," added Miss Thandi. Mitigating, Annabel Lenton said Piatek had spent six months in custody, so had served the equivalent of a 12-month prison sentence.

"He tells me he has lost half his weight in prison and his mental health has greatly suffered from the time he has spent there," said Miss Lenton.
