A man accusing Google LLC for privacy infringement withdrew his appeal at the Sapporo High Court on Wednesday after the internet search engine deleted search results on the man's arrest on suspicion of rape, his lawyers said.

In July 2012, the Hokkaido Prefectural Police arrested the man on suspicion of rape, but prosecutors did not indict him on grounds of insufficient evidence. He then sued Google to demand the deletion of the search results on his arrest. In December last year, the Sapporo District Court ordered Google to delete part of its search results, saying "[It's] very detrimental to [his] private life."

The man appealed to the high court, demanding it expand the scope of items to be deleted. Google informed him in July that the company deleted the search results, the lawyers said.
