RAIPUR: In a fit of rage, a man with a reported history of psychiatric illness killed his wife and three minor daughters in Devri village village under Balouda district in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district.
The accused, identified as Deshraj Kashyap, around 45-years-old, killed his wife, Mongra Bai, aged 40, and his three daughters: Kalyani, 16; Bhagya Lakshmi, also known as Pihu, 10; and Yachna, 6, on the night of July 31 at their home. He then fled the scene after locking the door from outside.
However, the crime only came to light on Wednesday night when neighbors noticed the door had been closed for two days. The village sarpanch was informed, who then contacted the police. Upon arrival, the police discovered the bodies of the four victims in a pool of blood, according to Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police, Vijay Agrawal.
The accused is reported to have locked the door from the outside and fled the village. However, the police apprehended him on Wednesday night, immediately after the murder case was brought to their attention, stated SP Agrawal.
The village sarpanch played a crucial role in uncovering the incident. The shocking news emerged on Wednesday night, prompting a response team from Pantora police station, including the sub-inspector and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts, to rush to the crime scene. The situation continues to develop as post-mortem procedures are underway. A comprehensive investigation is being conducted to reveal the details surrounding this tragic event, the SP mentioned.
SP Agrawal also noted that the mental state of the accused, Deshraj Kashyap, has come under scrutiny. It has been revealed that he has been undergoing psychiatric treatment for the past decade. On the same day as the incident, July 31, he had gone for treatment, accompanied by his brother-in-law, to Bilaspur. The SP added that the accused's father also faced similar mental health issues.
The accused has been booked under Section 302 of the IPC and has been presented before the court, which will determine the next course of action, as stated by SP Agrawal.
