Man with knife and 10 bags of drugs locked up after being stopped in street

A man caught carrying a lock knife and drugs is today behind bars after being stopped in the street by police.

Jack Feeney, 25, of Green Oaks Path, Widnes, was detained by Cheshire police during a stop and search on Page Lane in the town at around 1.45pm on Thursday, April 30.

He was charged with possession of a bladed article in public, and possession of Class A drug cocaine and Class B cannabis.

Feeney was remanded into custody following his arrest to appear via video link at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 1.

He faced justice on Friday at Liverpool Crown Court where he was sentenced to eight months in prison, having pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in public and simple possession of cocaine and cannabis.

Widnes police posted on social media that Feeney was found with a knife, two snapbags of cocaine and eight snapbags of cannabis.

Feeney’s arrest was part of a week-long crackdown on illegal drugs in Widnes.

Following the operation’s conclusion, Detective Inspector Ian Whiley, of Widnes Local Policing Unit, said: “Our officers executed warrants, stepped up proactive patrols, conducted open land searches and stopped numerous people and vehicles during the week.

“Their sterling work has resulted in significant amounts of cash and class A and B drugs being seized and several arrests being made.

“Numerous investigations are ongoing on the back of the work carried out during the week of action and, as always, we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice and thwart criminal enterprises.

“The country may be in lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but our efforts to make Widnes an even better place to live and work remain as strong as ever.”
