Man 'with gun' sparks armed police response as officers surround street

Armed police swarmed on a Liverpool street this morning following reports of a man with a suspected firearm.

Officers were scrambled to Bagot Street in Wavertree at around 8am.

A man was arrested a short time later on nearby Lawrence Road and an imitation firearm was seized.

It was taken away by police for examination.

A 55-year-old man from Wavertree was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and has been taken to a police station for questioning.

No-one was injured or threatened in the incident, which led to a significant police presence on Lawrence Road near the junctions with Egerton Road and Portman Road.
