Man with firearm sparks major police operation with helicopter and armed officers

Armed officers and a helicopter descended on Clevedon Golf Club this afternoon (February 5) after reports of a man with a gun.

Police were called to the grounds, on Castle Road, at around 4:35pm.

They located a man with a firearm, and officers in the helicopter spoke to him using special equipment.

An Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman confirmed the man had permission to be there, and no further action was needed.

She said: "A member of the public called us to reports of a man with a weapon.

"We deployed armed officers and a helicopter.

"A man with a licenced firearm – which was being used with permission of the landowner - was located.

"There is no risk to the wider public."
