A woman was left with serious injuries after a crash in St Helens.

Merseyside police would like to speak to a man who is believed to have been in the area at the time of the crash, on Moss Bank Road, at around 10.55am on Friday, September 9. He is described as being white, with a bald or balding head and a cut to his left leg.

Officers believe he might have seen something that can help them with their investigation into the crash that left a 70-year-old woman with several fractures and other serious injuries.

The crash involved a black Golf Volkswagen and a blue Range Rover. The woman needed to be removed from the Golf by emergency services before being taken to hospital.

A man, 31, from St Helens, who was the driver of the Blue Range Rover was later arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital with several injuries and has since been released under investigation.

Sergeant Greg Gillespie said: "Although an arrest was made shortly after the collision, we are still appealing for anyone to come forward who saw this incident. Witness enquiries shows there were several vehicles in and around the collision and we believe that the drivers of these cars could have vital information that may help us understand the circumstances of this collision which left a woman with severe injuries.

"We are also keen to speak with a male who may have been walking on Birchley Road at the time of the collision. He was described as a white male, with a bald or balding head and a cut to his left leg. We would like this male to contact us as soon as possible to discuss what he may have saw, as he may have crucial evidence that could assist our enquiries.

"If you were on Moss Bank Road at the time of the incident and saw the collision or have any CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation please contact police.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information which could assist the investigation, is asked to call the Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 777 5747 or contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook quoting reference 22000674118.
