Man whose body was recovered from sea after major search is named by police

A man whose body was pulled from an estuary in Carmarthenshire after a large scale search has been named.

The search took place in the Llansteffan area - about eight miles south of Carmarthen - during the early hours of last Tuesday morning (September 15).

Emergency services responded after reports someone was seen in difficulty having entered the water.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police, crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, coastguard teams from Llansteffan and Burry Port, a rescue helicopter and a rescue lifeboat from Ferryside all attended the estuary between midnight and 4am.

Two emergency ambulances joined them at the scene shortly after 4.10am, and confirmed that a “public access defibrillator was deployed”.

Police confirmed at around 6.30am that the man pulled from the water had died, and he has now been named as Sean Mahoney-Brown, from the Gwent area. He was 46.

Formal identification has taken place, and the coroner’s office for Carmarthenshire has confirmed that an inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned until a later date.
