Man whose body was pulled from canal was 69-year-old cyclist who had fallen in

A 69-year-old man whose body was recovered from the Union Canal yesterday had been cycling and fell in.

Police confirmed the cyclist had fallen into the water at Linlithgow and sadly died.

Officers raced to the section of water near Strawberry Bank in Linlithgow at around 9.30am yesterday and parts of Strawberry Bank and the nearby Manse Road while cordoned off while enquiries were carried out.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.30am on Tuesday, 21 February, 2023, police were called to the Strawberry Bank area of Linlithgow following the discovery of a body of a 69-year-old man within the water.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
