Man whose body found by gardai in house in Drumcondra, Dublin named locally

The man whose body was found in a house in Dublin overnight has been named locally as Eric Rooney.

Gardai rushed to the scene on St Michael's Road in Drumcondra after receiving a report of a break-in.

Officers who arrived at the home discovered 50-year-old Mr Rooney's remains but no one else was at the property.

Local parish priest Fr Richard Sheehy from Our Lady of Dolours Glasnevin extended his sympathies to the family, friends and neighbours of the deceased man.

Fr Sheehy said: “It’s a shock to everybody when you hear about a sudden death, a tragic death.”

Gardai made the discovery at around 11pm on Saturday.

The body remained at the scene overnight but has since been removed.

A source said: "It seems that the body had been there for some time when Gardai discovered it last night."

They added: "It's not yet known if the reported break-ins are connected with the death also."

Councillor for the North Inner City Anthony Flynn described the tragic situation as "very sad".

He told Dublin Live: "It was very heartbreaking news to hear this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with the man's family at this time."

Gardai and forensic personnel were pictured at the house on Sunday morning as the investigation got under way.

Gardai in Mountjoy investigating the death have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
