Man who was going to sell drugs to pay off debt avoids jail

Success by a drug offender to turn his life around has spared him from immediate custody.

Luke Mighty admitted possessing cocaine, MDMA and cannabis with intent to supply in January 2018.

The 30-year-old, of Bevington Close in Patchway, also admitted possessing Class C drug etizolam.

In November last year Judge Martin Picton deferred sentence on the case.

Today (May 18, 2020) he handed him a two-year jail term, suspended for 12 months.

Mighty was also given a 12-month community order and up to 20 days of rehabilitation.

Drugs and drugs paraphernalia in the case were ordered to be destroyed.

Bristol Crown Court heard Mighty had drugs with intent to supply in order to pay off a debt.

The judge said: "I am happy to see that the period of deferment has gone about as well as it could have.

"You've attempted to engage with people who can help you in terms of rehabilitation.

"You have support from you family, you've continued with an Open University course and I wish you well with that.

"Success on you part is a consequence that leads me to suspend the custodial term.

"I reserve breaches to myself but I am not expecting any."
