Man 'who wants to be famous' climbs Tower Bridge causing traffic chaos

A man plunged a large part of London into chaos today as he climbed Tower Bridge in a bid to "be famous".

At 3pm today an unidentified man starting scrambling up the concave blue sides of the iconic London landmark.

He climbed as high as possible, before the path ahead became too steep for him to continue without slipping down.

By the time emergency service workers noticed he was making his ascent the man was teetering high above the road.

Michelle Stone, an Australian on holiday in the UK, was taking a stroll across the bridge from the Tower of London when she spotted the climber.

"I was walking over the bridge when I saw this guy climbing up," she told The Mirror.

"I asked a guy that was with him what on earth he was doing. He said 'all he wants to do is be famous.'

"It caused a really big traffic jam."

According to Michelle the man was "bloody high" off the ground.

From its base to its tip Tower Bridge is 65m high, which suggests the climber could have made it about 15m off the ground and 30m from the River Thames below.

Michelle continued: "He got to a point where he couldn't go further because if he tried he would have slipped back.

"He was just an ordinary average bloke who just decided to go for a walk over a bridge.

"I thought he was brave to get up that high."
