Man who visited Bath for first post-lockdown trip wishes he'd 'never bothered'

A man who visited Bath wishes he never bothered, due to the city's 20p toilet charge.

Cardiff resident David Judd was keen to go to the Georgian gem after being able to allowed to leave Wales on July 6, as lockdown rules were relaxed.

But Mr Judd, who wears an ileostomy bag after bowel surgery, was shocked to find the 20p loo charge at the facilities at the Charlotte Street car park.

He told Somerset Live: "I found a toilet a short walk away but when I got out my radar key to enter the disabled toilet three gentlemen said they charge everyone 20p for fairness.

"They said to go to the Shaftesbury Road toilet, a 20-minute walk away, but that too had a 20p charge.

"I have never known anywhere where they charge you for having a disability."

Mr Judd said the experience tarnished his visit to Bath and he wishes he never bothered going.

Bath and North East Somerset Council states on its website there are 15 public toilet sites managed by Healthmatic within Bath and North East Somerset, plus three locations under community-based arrangements.

The only exception to this are the toilets within the locked playground at Royal Victoria Park, (although the facility at the rear of this block is open), and The Shallows in Saltford due to a collapsed drain.
