One ball contained cannabis and another had both cannabis and cocaine.

Freeman and his accomplice, who is still at large, were caught at a BP petrol station in Chester. He said he had been helping a friend and had made a stupid mistake.

The 29-year-old floor fitter admitted hurling the tennis balls with cannabis into HMP Berwyn in Wrexham but denied all knowledge of them containing cocaine.

But a jury at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday, March 4, found him guilty of transporting Class A Drugs into a prison.

Judge Her Honour Nicola Saffman adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report on April 1.

She told the defendant: "Be in no doubt Mr Freeman that it's almost inevitable that an immediate sentence of custody will be the appropriate sentence.

"Drugs in prison estates cause chaos. They cause danger and harm to prison officers and prisoners alike. Prisoners can run up drug debts and those are enforced."

Today the jury of nine men and three women took two hours and 20 minutes to reach their verdict.

Freeman was granted unconditional bail until his sentencing hearing.
