Man who targeted ex-partner ended up breaking his leg while fleeing police

A man who trashed his ex-partner's property ended up badly damaged himself.

Kirvan Stephenson was in a relationship which ended in October last year.

Bristol Crown Court heard he went on to trash both her home and car on two separate occasions.

And when he burgled her home he jumped from a three-storey window as he fled from police and broke his right leg in three places.

Stephenson, 29, of Rectory Road in Matson, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and sending a malicious message in May last year.

He also admitted burglary and criminal damage in July last year.

The recorder Mr Noel Casey handed him a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

He told Stephenson to observe a three-month curfew and undergo rehabilitation.

Stephenson was also made the subject of a three-year restraining order, banning him from all contact with his ex.

Dominik Morton, prosecuting, said in May last year Stephenson trashed electrical appliances at his ex-partner's home in Wade Street, St Paul's, and also damaged her car.

He then gave her a message which included: "Sleep at your flat and I'll burn down that. I've got nothing to lose you know, watch me."

In July last year Stephenson burgled his ex-girlfriend's home but fled when police attended the scene.

He was found in the back of her car, which had been damaged again.

Katie Jenkins, defending, said her client had an IQ of 69 and had anger issues.

Miss Jenkins said alcohol had been a contributor to his offending.

She said: "He does express remorse."
