A brave car owner was left with broken bones after desperately trying to stop his vehcile being driven away by a burglar.

Police have now issued CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to following the sickening scenes in Kirkby .

The burglary victim was left with a broken thumb, broken nose and multiple cuts and scratches to his body and face after trying in vain to stop his Audi A3 being taken - police confirmed.

Merseyside Police said at around 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6, the car keys to the red Audi were stolen from a house on Meadowsweet Road.

The car was taken and driven off in the direction of Angelica Road but after turning down a dead end it turned round at which point it was in collision with the owner of the car who had attempted to stop the vehicle in the road.

The car then drove off at speed up St Kevin’s Drive. It was found abandoned on Falcon Hey, Fazakerley , approximately 30 minutes later.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and house-to-house enquiries have been carried out in the local area.

Police have issued CCTV images of a man "who they believe could assist our enquiries".
