Man who straddled victim and bit his nose jailed

Biting someone's nose has cost one Weston-super-Mare man ten months in prison.

Bristol Crown Court was told Ashley Taylor took a dislike to Oscar Evett - who was using crutches at the time - and hit him to the ground before straddling him and biting him.

The court heard Mr Evett sustained a deep cut to his nose which took a month to heal and has been left scarred.

Taylor, 25, of Milton Avenue, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the attack on September 6 last year.

Judge William Hart jailed him for 10 months on October 28.

He told Taylor: "You bit his nose, leaving him a permanent scar to remember you by.

"You are aged 25 and you have a bad record."

Neil Treharne, prosecuting, told the court a woman first attacked Mr Evett, swinging his own crutches at him.

Mr Treharne said: "The defendant tackles the complainant to the floor and he punches him on the floor.

"He then bites the complainant's nose quite hard.

"The complainant was straddled and the defendant was holding his arms down.

"He felt immense pain to his nose."

The court heard Mr Evett was able to get upright, collect his crutches and seek help at a nearby kebab house.

Taylor was arrested and made no comment when interviewed.

Robyn Rowland, defending, said that his client had stopped drinking and drug taking, was in private accommodation and had a permanent job and a stable relationship.

Mr Rowland said Taylor had distanced himself from former associates.

Bur Mr Rowland conceded: "The offence is deeply unpleasant, in the city centre, at night-time, and was drug-fuelled and alcohol-fuelled."
