Man who stabbed brother to death is sentenced to 13 years in prison

A man has been found guilty of manslaughter after stabbing his brother three times in the chest.

Vincent Bell stabbed his brother Damian Banks following an argument at an address in Durham in the early hours of Saturday, March 30.

A doctor and paramedics, who were assisted by police officers, performed open heart surgery at the scene, but were unable to save Mr Banks’ life.

Bell pleaded not guilty to murder and was found guilty of manslaughter following a two-week trial at Teesside Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 13 years in prison, today.

Detective Superintendent Umberto Cuozzo, who is the officer leading the investigation, said: “This was a particularly sensitive investigation where an argument between two brothers ended in such tragic consequences and an unimaginable impact on family and friends.

“My thoughts and those of the investigation team are with them.”
