Man who seriously hurt his friend in Christmas Day attack awaits sentence

A Speedwell man high on drink and drugs seriously injured his friend when he attacked him on Christmas Day.

Earlier all was well between Troy Van-Meir and Jay Organ at the George and Dragon in Church Road, St George, Bristol Crown Court heard.

But when Van-Meir mentioned Organ owed him money he became aggravated before punching and kicking Mr Organ in the road.

Van-Meir, 33, of Rowan Close, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent on December 25.

Judge James Patrick adjourned the case for sentence on Monday. (Mar 2, 2020)

James Ward, prosecuting, described how witnesses outside the pub saw Van-Meir punch and kick his friend some four times.

Mr Organ fell to the road and sustained a fractured shin, a broken and dislocated finger and two fractures to face bones.

Police who arrived at the scene arrested Van-Meir, who claimed it was "just a play fight".

The court heard Mr Organ did not support the prosecution.

Rodney Wilson, defending, said his client was fully remorseful and took full responsibilty.

Mr Wilson conceded: "It is concerning.

"Since in custody he had had an opportunity to reflect on the seriousness of drug abuse and alcohol intake and his behaviour."
