Man who refused to swap plane seats so mum could sit with kids says 'it's not my issue'

A flight passenger faced a huge backlash from one mum after he refused to give up his plane seat so she could sit with her family, as he claimed her travel problems were not his "issue".

Swapping plane seats can be a pretty divisive topic as some travellers aren't willing to give up a seat they've paid extra for.

That was the case for this bloke as he's not a fan of travelling so had paid extra for his seat to feel more comfortable.

But, the mum was not happy with his reasoning and things got rather tense on the flight as she 'made a scene' according to the grumbling passenger.

In the Reddit post, the man, who remained anonymous explained: "The flight was roughly 10 hours and around this time of year it's extremely hectic.

"I booked my ticket specifically to be closer to the front of the plane so I can be closer to the gate when it's time to get out. I personally hate traveling so I spent a bit more money to be closer."

He added that the mum came over to him when he got on board and asked to switch, but the move would have left him sitting 20 rows back which would be far from helpful when the plane landed as he would be far from the door.

When he refused, she was livid.

"The woman said that I was being an a**hole and I should just give up my seat so she could sit with her husband and kids (ouch right in front of her kids too). I said,' respectfully ma'am, your travel issues are not my problem. I am keeping the seat I paid for,'" he wrote.

"She ended up making a scene and basically said 'wow look at this a**hole who can't even move seats so a family could sit all together.

"I said, 'maybe you should have booked ahead of time, or spent more money on tickets so you all could sit together. This is not my issue. Grow up and get over it. I am not moving seats. End of story!"

Her husband later came to apologise to the man but said he should have just moved as it would have been easier.

In response, many sided with the man and said the mum was acting unreasonably.

One person wrote: "If it was really about sitting together, why didn’t they ask the people 20 rows back if they’d like the better seats upfront? They'd still all be together."

While another stated: "I always pay more for premium seats. And I never switch. The entitlement of some people."
