Man who ran off with Ukrainian refugee is 'saving orphans but won't see his own kids'

A fuming mum whose partner left her for a Ukrainian refugee and ‘is planning to save orphans’ has accused him of ignoring his own children.

Tony Garnett, 29, left partner Lorna and their children to start a new life with 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym 10 days after he and Lorna, 28, welcomed her into their home.

The move sparked outrage as well as the couple started making plans to start a family, with Tony previously announcing he is considering pursuing a new career in rap music.

They recently announced they were looking at going back to Ukraine to help save “hundreds of lives” of youngsters affected by the fighting.

Lorna branded the move “laughable”, adding he has not been to see his own children.

She told the Sun.: “It riles me a bit, he hasn't seen his kids in 3-months… What about helping his children?

"He needs to put his kids first before helping anyone else in Ukraine.

"He just hasn't been bothered to contact them. It's laughable, absolutely laughable."

Tony completely denies the allegations and said his children come before anything else.

The dad-of-two previously told Yorkshire Live he was planning to raise as much as £10,000 for Ukraine before travelling to the country to dish out the funds himself.

He said: "It's the right thing to do. People are donating to Ukraine but they are not seeing where this money is going to.

"I want to raise money for people who look after orphans and all those that have been wounded. I want to travel over there myself and document who I am helping. Sofiia will be going with me.

"I have seen the full scale of things since meeting Sofiia and I think people need this help. It is not a game. I need to use my influence now to do the right thing."

Tony first met Sofiia when he picked her up from Manchester Airport, around 50 miles from their Bradford home.

After taking her to a drive-thru McDonald's for a Big Mac the pair hit it off within days, it was reported.

Lorna, who recalls becoming concerned when their new housemate began wearing "low cut tops and red lipstick" around the house, eventually snapped and kicked Sofiia out.

She was left devastated when her partner of eight years left with her and says her life has been "shattered" by the ordeal.

Tony previously said he wants to do things the traditional way, and wishes to travel back to Ukraine so he can ask Soffia's father for his blessings and approval.

The pair have received some negative reaction on social media, but have picked up a combined 12,000 followers on Instagram since their story went viral.

Tony is not bothered by the criticism, and called out the 'morons' who have sent abuse online to him and Sofiia.

When the news reached Sofiia's family back in Ukraine, some of her family members vowed never to speak to her again.

Sofiia explained that she was upset by some of the headlines accusing her of 'stealing someone's husband', and she fears that Russians will use her story as propaganda to show 'the Ukrainians cause trouble wherever they go'.

Sofiia arrived at the Garrett's household in May after fleeing the city of Lviv, which was under attack from Vladimir Putin's soldiers.

She left behind her divorced parents, her stepfather and younger sister Elizabeth, aged 13.
