Man who pulled out knife in front of police jailed

A man who produced a knife when approached by police has been jailed.

Darren Jordan was sought after he smashed his way into a friend's home.

Bristol Crown Court heard when police spotted him he pulled a blade from his waistband and was arrested.

The 41-year-old, whose address was given as Shaftesbury Avenue in Montpelier, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and using violence to secure entry on February 23.

He also admitted possessing a blade on February 28.

Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for 14 months.

The judge ordered that a knife recovered from Jordan be destroyed.

Alec Small, prosecuting via Skype due to coronavirus lockdown, said a neighbour heard the sound of someone smashing into Jordan's female friend's property in Flaxman Close, Lockleaze.

The woman then screamed and was heard to say: "You have to get out."

Police called in found a smashed bay window and damage to a curtain rail and curtain.

Mr Small said perpetrator Jordan fled the scene.

But days later, when police cut him off on a cycle path in Easton, he held a knife which came from his waistband, was PAVA sprayed and dropped it before being arrested.

Mark Linehan, defending via Skype, said: "He says through me that he is sorry for his actions both in relation to the officers and the property."

Mr Linehan told the court it is Jordan's case that he had tried to persuade his female friend to let him in.

It was also Jordan's case that when he fled from police his intention was to discard the knife.

Mr Linehan said: "He took it out of his waistband with the intention of dropping it and that is what he did."

The court heard Jordan is trying to tackle issues regarding Class A drug misuse, with which he had battled for a long time.
