- An Irish man has been handed a 14-year prison sentence in Hungary for the murder of American tourist Mackenzie Michalski in Budapest.
- Ms Michalski, 31, from Portland, Oregon, was reported missing on 5 November 2024 after being last seen with the man, identified as L.T.M., at a nightclub.
- Detectives revealed that L.T.M. beat and strangled Ms Michalski during an "intimate encounter" at his rented apartment, after which he attempted to cover up the crime.
- The man hid Ms Michalski's body in a wardrobe, placed it in a suitcase, and drove it to Lake Balaton, approximately 150 kilometres southwest of Budapest, where he disposed of it in a wooded area.
- L.T.M., who was arrested on 7 November 2024 and subsequently confessed, had made internet searches on how to dispose of a body, police procedures, and the competence of Budapest police prior to his apprehension.
