Man who married 53 women says he's 'looking for stability' in search for perfect match

A 63-year-old man from Saudi Arabia has caused a stir on social media after recounting his experience of marrying 53 women.

Abu Abdullah was on a quest for the perfect match and claimed that he wanted to spend his life with one woman.

According to Abdullah, he was not looking for personal pleasure in his multiple marriages but for stability and psychological comfort.

Now, he stresses that he is happily married to one woman and does not plan to remarry, he confirmed to the MBC in a weekly programme.

Abu Abdullah married the 53 women at different intervals, but married for the first time at the age of 20 to a woman six years older than him.

While some praised the video, others said that what he did was nothing to be proud of, and criticised him.

He is now being called the “polygamist of the century”.

Abu Abdullah said: “When I married for the first time, I did not plan to marry more than one woman because I was feeling comfortable and had children.”

“But after a while, problems happened and I decided to marry again when I was 23 years old and I informed my wife of my decision,” he added.

He also pointed out that when a problem arose between his first and second wife, he decided to marry the third and fourth and after some time divorced the first and second.

Then, he went on to divorce the third after a quarrel between him and his fourth wife.

According to the Arabic daily Sabq, Abdullah married multiple women in search of one that would make him happy in his life. He continued to marry, even after divorcing his fourth wife.

Mr Abdullah explained that stability comes from marrying an older woman, not a young one.

He also revealed that the minimum duration of his marriages was just one night, and that all his marriages were traditional.

While most of his marriages were to Saudi women, Abdullah also decided to marry a foreign woman when he travelled outside the Kingdom and lived away for 3-4 months for his own work.

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab and Islamic world, the number of polygamous marriages have steadily declined as people are opting for more contemporary lifestyles and living in smaller homes.

The rising cost of living and the demands for childbearing, education, health and transportation, are also contributing factors for the decrease.
