Man who 'made 200 false insurance claims using fake identities' arrested by gardai

A man who allegedly made 200 insurance claims using fake identities has been arrested.

The man, aged in his 50s, was taken into custody by gardai as part of an ongoing investigation into fraudulent insurance claims as part of Operation Fraction.

He was arrested on Friday "for offences contrary to Section 6 and 26 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001," a garda spokesman said.

He is currently detained at a station in north Dublin.

According to investigating gardai, around 200 false claims were made using false identities, false utility bills supported by false medical certificates.

Officers say that investigations are ongoing.

A spokesman said: "As part of an ongoing investigation into alleged fraudulent insurance claims as part of Operation Fraction, Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau arrested a man in his late 50s on the morning of Friday, 2nd April, 2021.

"The man was arrested for offences contrary to Section 6 and 26 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, and is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a North Dublin Garda Station.

"It is alleged that approximately 200 insurance claims were made using false identities, false utility bills supported by false medical certificates.

"Investigations are ongoing."
