Man who licked tub of ice cream then put it back on supermarket shelf jailed

A man who opened a tub of ice cream, licked it then put it back in a supermarket freezer, has been jailed for a month.

D'Adrien Anderson was filmed after he walked into the shop in Port Arthur, in Texas, US, to carry out the sickening prank.

The video was shared across social media in August last year and showed the 24-year-old in a branch of Walmart.

CCTV from inside the supermarket showed Anderson later took the ice cream back out of the freezer and bought it.

Anderson and his father later returned to the shop to show officers a receipt as proof that he had bought the tainted ice cream, ABC news reported.

Ice cream manufacturer Blue Bell Creameries replaced all of the ice cream in the freezer as a precaution, which cost them $1,565 - about £1,200.

In a statement released at the time of his arrest, a spokesman for Walmart said: "If food is tampered with, or a customer wants to leave the impression that they left behind adulterated product, we will move quickly with law enforcement to identify, apprehend and prosecute those who think this is a joke - it is not."

He was jailed for 30 days (JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE)

Anderson pleaded guilty to misdemeanour criminal mischief and was jailed for 30 days.

He was also fined $1,000 - about £770 - and ordered to pay $1,565 or £1,200 to the ice cream company.

He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
