A MAN has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer in Inverclyde.
Officers were called to a report of concern for a man in Greenock during the early hours of Sunday.
Police traced a man in the East India Harbour area where a disturbance took place.
An officer was then assaulted and the man made off in a dinghy, police have said.
The officer received treatment for a stab wound at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, where he remains in a stable condition.
A 31-year-old man is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday.
Police added that a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The incident was contained with no further risk to the public.
