Man who fell onto Metrolink track after brutal tram stop attack rushed to hospital

A man has been rushed to hospital with a head injury after landing on a Metrolink tramline in Tameside following an assault. Emergency services rushed out to Droylsden tram stop, on Ashton Road, at around 9pm on Thursday evening (July 28).

Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to reports of a man being assaulted following an altercation at the tram stop. The man, aged in his 50s, landed on the track following the incident.

Police are not currently able to confirm whether the man was pushed off the platform onto the track or if he fell following the incident. He was taken to hospital by ambulance with a head injury.

The man's injuries are not life threatening, GMP says. Police believe two suspects were involved in the incident.

Both fled the scene before police arrived. No arrests have yet been made and anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 9pm officers attended Droylsden Metrolink stop after receiving a call that a male had been assaulted following an altercation. The victim suffered a head injury that was not life threatening and was taken to hospital."

North West Ambulance Service confirmed it took a male patient to hospital 'following a police incident'. Metrolink services on the Ashton line were unable to travel through Droylsden for around an hour while emergency services were at the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact GMP online using LiveChat or by calling 101, quoting log number 3246 of July 28, 2022. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by phoning 0800 555 111.
