Man who escaped dock at Liverpool Crown Court hands himself in

A man is now in custody after escaping a courtroom yesterday.

Yesterday, Nicolas Bunclark, from Netherton, was sentenced to 16 months for assault, before he vaulted the gate out of the unsecured dock and fled Liverpool Crown Court after a brief tussle with officers. Bunclark was initially thought to have remained within the building, and a heightened security presence could be spotted at the court afterwards.

Bunclark has now been remanded in custody after extensive efforts were made to find him in Sefton. Police confirmed he was taken into custody after speaking to police and handing himself in.

Bunclark had been sentenced to 16 months jail time for assault occasioning actual bodily hard following an attack at a hostel on Leyland Road in Southport on Friday, November 19 2021.

The ECHO was told that the 30-year-old held his head in his hands after learning his sentence. After a brief interaction with his mum in the public gallery, he was led towards the cells before his escape.

Several other cases were adjourned as a result of the incident. The Ministry of Justice said that such breaches of its "strict security measures" were "extremely rare".
