Man who died in tragic house fire in Salford is named

A man who died in a tragic house fire in Salford has been named.

Police and fire crews were  called to an end terraced property on Liverpool Street  at around 6.20am on Tuesday (November 10).

Tragically, the body of a man, who has since been named as Roy Austin, was discovered at the scene.

An inquest into the death of Mr Austin, believed to have been in his 80s, is due to be opened at Bolton Coroner’s Court.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, a spokesman for  GMP  said.

Speaking to the  Manchester Evening News , one neighbour described seeing flames engulf the back of the property.

“We just knew what was happening,” he said.

“We saw it this morning. Someone shouted ‘fire’ outside, it was a young lad.

“Flames were coming out of the back of the house like a bonfire.

“Three fire trucks turned up at first, they put it out from the back then went through the front.

“That's when we saw all the smoke - it was thick black smoke billowing out.

“The police came then the ambulance around 15 minutes later. It's just a shame.”

Another neighbour said he woke to the sound of sirens this morning.

He said: “I just woke up at around 6am to the sirens.

“The fire was towards the back of the house. I saw over the top of the roof.”
