Man who died after collision involving ambulance named

A MAN who died after a collision involving an ambulance responding to an emergency call has been named by police.

The crash happened on the A96 at Barmuckity, east of Elgin in Moray at around 3.30am on Saturday February 22.

Gary Dewar, 40, was taken to hospital where he died a short time later, police said.

Officers are appealing for information about the incident.

Sergeant Dave Cooper, of the North East Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Gary’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“They have asked that their privacy is respected.

“Our inquiries into the circumstances of the crash continue and I would urge anyone that was driving on the A96 near Elgin, around the time of the incident, to get in touch.

“I would appeal again to anyone who may have dash-cam footage to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0494 of February 22 2025.”

Dewar was from Lhanbryde in Moray.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We are co-operating with Police Scotland on their investigation, which is currently looking into the circumstances of the incident.”
