Man who died after being hit by train at Long Eaton station is named

A man who died after being hit by a train at a railway station has been named at the opening of the inquest into his death.

Dylan Slezak died after being hit by a train at Long Eaton railway station on Thursday, April 15.

The emergency services were called to the station at around 7.13pm, but sadly the 49-year-old died at the scene, Derbyshire Live reports.

Mr Slozak, whose address was given as the Novotel hotel in Bostocks Lane, Long Eaton, was identified by his fingerprints.

A post mortem has given his provisional cause of death as severe chest and abdominal injuries caused by a rail collision.

An inquest into his death was opened by Lousie Pinder, assistant coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, at Derby Coroner's Court on Wednesday, April 28.

She confirmed that multiple agencies are drafting reports that will be used in the full inquest, including British Transport Police.

She adjourned the inquest for six weeks at which point it will be reviewed.

The incident caused delays for several hours on the line between Derby and East Midlands Parkway while emergency services were at the scene.

In addition to British Transport Police, crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and engineers from Network Rail were called.

British Transport Police released a statement a day later saying it was not treating the incident as suspicious.

A spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to Long Eaton railway station at 7.13pm yesterday (15 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin."
