Man who died after being hit by a car on Upper Brook Street named

A man who died after being hit by a car near the Royal Manchester Infirmary has been named

The person fatally struck on Upper Brook Street (A34) was 35-year-old Daniel Kirton, police have confirmed.

Mr Kirton was said to have been lying in the road when he was struck by a grey Toyota Verso at 11.35pm last night (December 3).

Police say his next of kin have been informed of his death.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

No arrests have been made.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to the scene following a call at around 11.35pm reporting a grey Toyota Verso “fatally came into contact with a pedestrian, who is understood to have been lying in the road”.

Investigators are still appealing to the public for any information that could assist their enquiries.

Constable Darren White, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said even the most seemingly insignificant of details could help.

“This is a devastating incident where a young man has lost his life and work is ongoing to inform his family and loved ones of this awful news," he said in a statement on Thursday morning.

“We are keen to get any information we can about this incident so that we can ascertain the full circumstances behind it, including how the man came to be in the road.

“We encourage anyone with any information or anyone who may have been out on the A34 close to the MRI last night to get in touch with any details, no matter how insignificant it may seem.”

Anyone with information should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 3036 of 03/12/2020.

Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
