Man who claimed girlfriend died from 'aggressive sex' charged with murder

A man who has been charged with murder claims that his girlfriend died during an aggressive sex session.

Nathan Edwin Parry, 34, is accused of killing girlfriend in his Salt Lake City home in October last year.

It has taken Utah police months to investigate the case and decide the death of Rebecca Michelle Sullivan was not an accident.

Parry, 34, was charged in 3rd District Court with the first-degree felony as well as obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.

The Desert News reports that on October 21 Parry called 911 claiming that Miss Sullivan was dead after the two engaged in "aggressive sex", according to charging documents.

Medical crews responded and found the 41-year-old, known as Becky, on the living room floor in full cardiac arrest.

She was seen to have "a large V-shaped laceration on her forehead and visible strangulation marks on her neck," according to charging documents.

Parry claimed the two "placed restraints" around each other's necks while engaging in sex and lost consciousness, the charges state.

There was some doubt in investigators’ minds and they quizzed emergency room doctors.

They stated they believed Sullivan's injuries were not consistent with Parry's version of events.

He then changed his story and "stated that he and Miss Sullivan were trying to commit suicide together but he had to cut them down," according to charging documents.

Investigators learned that Parry also called his ex-wife that night and told her "Rebecca is dead" and that she "hung herself right in front of me," the documents state.

When Parry was interviewed by police on November 9, he claimed that when he and Sullivan engaged in hanging themselves together, he was able to grab a pair of scissors sitting on a drawer with his feet and cut them both down, the charges state.

"Parry stated he lied to 911 and said he was 'ridiculously' drunk and terrified," according to charging documents as the stories changed.

The newspaper said as investigators continued to look at the crime scene, they determined that the scissors Parry allegedly grabbed were over nine feet away from where he claimed he was hanging.

A detective noted that "Parry's multiple explanations were inconsistent with the evidence with the reconstruction," the charges state.

Furthermore, "the reported explanations of how the injuries occurred were inconsistent with autopsy findings," according to charging documents.

The paper said the complicated case has taken months to investigate. Sullivan's family believed from the beginning that their loved one was murdered and did not believe any of Parry's explanations.
