A man has come up with a way to avoid soaring electric costs - by running an extension cord from his flat to the plug in the hallway. As the cost of living crisis roars on, the resident has decided to get his landlord to pay for his bills.
His neighbour took to Reddit to explain the situation to share a picture of her apartment hallway where there is a visible extension cord running down the side and asked "brilliant or trashy?" She explained: "Neighbour can't pay electricity so he runs an extension cord from the building hallway to a power strip in his apartment."

It looks like things are looking grim for many people who are facing this shocking cost of living crisis head on, as many felt support for the man.
People were very quick to respond to this picture but the comments seemed split over whether this is a genius move to avoid damning costs or a pretty trashy shameless attempt to nick electric from your own building.
Moreover, others were worried about the potential fire hazards that could come from running this sort of project.
One person responded saying: "It’s all fun and games until he tries to power his entire apartment off that one extension cord and sets a fire to the whole building."
Another Redditor replied however to say: "Brilliant until the landlord finds out and evicts him."
However, other Redditors seemed inspired by this idea with one even writing: "Given how we are getting robbed by high prices rent, food, this is the least he could do.
"Not trashy I'd do the same."
Nevertheless, others could not hide the fire hazard this creates with some feeling that the landlord will almost certainly evict the man if he were to find out what was going on.
"You're the first person I've seen mention the insane fire hazard this is," one Redditor replied.
"In terms of risk, extension cords are easily in the top 5 greatest risks of fire in your house. And that's when you're using them properly."
