Man who burned woman's face with hot soup jailed

A plasterer who used household goods as weapons has been jailed.

Callum Jinks turned "controlling and violent" in a relationship, Bristol Crown Court heard today (January 20).

Not only did he throw hot soup over the woman, he lobbed a tin of meatballs and detergent at police called in.

Jinks, 23, of Berkeley Grove in Eastville, pleaded guilty to three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).

He also admitted causing criminal damage, assaulting a police officer, affray and breaching a suspended jail term for fraud.

Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for 18 months.

He told Jinks: "This is a poor catalogue of offending relating to your partner."

The judge imposed a three-year restraining order banning Jinks from all contact with the victim.

Kenneth Bell, prosecuting, said during an argument Jinks hurled a mug of hot tomato soup at the woman, burning the left side of her face.

The court heard in separate incidents in 2019 he punched her in the face when she asked him for help in the home, and punched her a second time after which he threatened to "blow up the boiler".

When police responded to her 999 call, Jinks lobbed a tin of meatballs at PC Robert Brett, hitting him in the small of the back.

More police were called in - including firearms officers - as Jinks threw more items at officers including knives and detergent.

He was Tasered and arrested, the court heard.

Matthew Comer, defending, said: "Both parties knew how to irritate the other in ways which only they could.

"Things did not occur without a background of antagonism on both sides.

"This is something Mr Jinks regrets.

"He shows regret and remorse by his guilty plea."
