Man who bought billboard to advertise for girlfriend plans to buy one in Bristol

For most singletons out there, Tinder and Bumble usually do the trick when it comes to finding love in our modern digital age.

However, for one man from Sheffield, he's taken the dating process just that step further.

Mark Rofe, 30, from Sheffield, bought an enormous advertising billboard for a girlfriend after being single for more than a year.

Now, he's started a crowdfunding page, so that he can spread his advertising campaign across the UK, including to here in Bristol.

So far, he has raised £105 so is quite a fair way off his £1,600 target.

The Daily Star reports that it all started when a friend sparked up the mad idea during a casual conversation.

Mark said: "Like any good idea it started off in the pub.

"I was talking to my mate saying how I was struggling on all these dating apps and I joked that I should put my face on a big billboard.

"We laughed about it but then actually I thought what a good idea."

For a mere £425, Mark was able to buy a 3m high, 6m wide billboard on Fairfield Street, which is one of Manchester's busiest roads that an estimated 460,000 motorists use each week.

Against a bright salmon pink background, the words 'Single? Date Mark' are emblazoned in the widely-hated Comic Sans font.

"This could be the sign you've been waiting for," it continues, with a link to his website datingmark.co.uk.

On Mark's website, he thanks Bristol's very own Maya Jama for visiting his website.

Mark is pictured sprawled on his side in what appears to be a seductive pose.

As of Sunday evening (February 2), Mark has received 1,004 applications for a date.

He describes himself as "extremely handsome and modest", says he has two friends and has kissed "at least three" girls.

Anyone wanting to apply for a date with Mark is asked to provide their age, location and social media handles - and a photo is required.

Mark isn't just looking to expand his billboard advertisements into Bristol but to other areas in the UK as well. He wants 'Date Mark' signs in Dublin, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Sheffield, Portsmouth and London.
