Man who battered woman after accusing her of stealing jailed for eight months

A man who battered a woman after accusing her of stealing from his flat was jailed for eight months yesterday.

Frank Kennedy, 44, attacked Lesley Carruthers in the foyer of his building in Glasgow’s Dalmarnock area in April this year.

Kennedy threw Miss Carruthers against a wall several times and struck her on the body.

He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to Miss Carruthers’ injury.

The pair were drinking at Kennedy’s flat when they had a disagreement over whether Miss Carruthers had stolen from him.

Kennedy escorted Miss Carruthers down to the foyer when she suddenly tried to get back into the lift.

CCTV was shown in court of Kennedy preventing Miss Carruthers from entering the lift.

Prosecutor Lucy Adams said: “He pushed her against he wall and was repeatedly struck by him to the head and body.

“As she made attempts to get away from him, she was stopped from doing so.”

Police Scotland attended and arranged for Miss Carruthers to go to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She suffered bruising to her face andbody.

Kennedy was arrested and told police: “She was stealing.”

Lawyer Stephen Bentley, defending, said Kennedy was “heavy handed” during the incident.

He added that Kennedy had saved Miss Carruthers earlier that day from “females armed with weapons.”

The father-of-one has previous conditions for shoplifting and assault.

Sheriff Stuart Reid caged Kennedy for eight months for the assault on Miss Carruthers.
