A man who raped and bashed a Polish nanny in a "humiliating and degrading" random attack north of Brisbane almost five years ago has been jailed for 12 and a half years.

Travis Alexander Manwarring, 32, physically and sexually assaulted the 24-year-old woman while she was out for an evening walk in Petrie in November, 2016.

The woman – who worked as an au pair for a family who lived close by — suffered serious facial injuries, including a broken nose, and had to undergo surgery.

Three months after the attack, police revealed the woman had died in a car crash after returning home to Poland.

The court heard Travis Manwarring committed "deplorable acts of personal violence".  (Instagram)

Early last year Manwarring was found guilty by a jury of rape, after a trial in the District Court.

He had pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

During a sentencing hearing on Friday, the court heard Manwarring had a lengthy criminal history, which included convictions for other serious assaults.

The court was told he had an "unfortunate upbringing" and had suffered physical and sexual abuse as a child, which led to him developing anti-social personality disorder.

When considering her sentence, Judge Nicole Kefford told the court Manwarring's history was "relevant and concerning" and were examples of "unrestrained, uncontrolled violence".

"You are a man who poses a risk to the community," she said.

Manwarring has not expressed remorse, Judge says

Judge Kefford described the attack as an "extraordinarily violent assault" and the sexual assault as "humiliating and degrading".

"Your conduct involved deplorable acts of personal violence and violation of an innocent woman in a public place," she said.

"You've expressed no remorse."

Manwarring was declared a serious violent offender and will need to serve at least 80 per cent of his sentence before he will be eligible for parole.
