A man who allegedly wrote “rat” in a Book of Condolences for the late Det Colm Horkan remains in custody today.
Jason Hennessy, 23, of Blanchardstown, was refused bail this morning at Blanchardstown District Court.
He was remanded in custody and will appear in Cloverhill district court via video link tomorrow.
Sgt Alan Lynch, of Blanchardstown Garda Station, told the court that on Friday, June 19 he was on duty at the station and set out a Book of Condolences for the late Det Horkan for members of the public to sign.
CCTV footage shows that shortly after midday, Hennessy and a friend came into the station. They allegedly went up to the book of condolences.
After they left, gardai at the station noticed that the book of condolences had been tampered with and the word “rat” had been written underneath Det Horkan’s name.
Hennessy was later arrested and charged with criminal damages.
Sgt Lynch told the court that Hennessy was also charged with violent conduct this morning.
Hennessy appeared in court today wearing a red T-shirt, black shorts and socks with no shoes.
On refusing Hennessy’s bail application, Judge Gerard Jones said: “I am under no circumstances entertaining bail for one minute.”
