Man who allegedly stockpiled weapons and secretly filmed sex acts granted bail

A man charged over a massive weapons haul in the Adelaide Hills last month has been granted home detention bail.

The man, aged in his 50s, was arrested in August after police allegedly uncovered more than 200 illegal weapons at his rural Adelaide Hills property.

Police also allege he forced a woman to have sex with other men, secretly filmed the acts and then threatened to disseminate the footage if she did not do what he told her.

The court heard the woman went to the police, who subsequently discovered the illegal weapons stockpile when they went to the man's house to investigate the allegations.

It is alleged the weapons haul included an assault rifle, machine gun, throwing knives, daggers, bayonets and military ammunition.

Police said an extensive three-day search of the property uncovered the weapons, some of which were allegedly located in hidden rooms.

It is also alleged the man kept a pistol in his bedside table.

The man was charged with unlawful firearms possession as well as engaging in indecent filming and threatening to distribute an invasive image.

Today, Magistrate John Fahey granted the man home detention bail, allowing him to live with his sister in Brompton, in Adelaide's inner north.

He noted the man was next due to appear in court in August next year so it would be a "very long time before he gets to any trial".

"I've taken that into account and … that's why I have to look at a home detention report," Magistrate Fahey said.

Under his bail conditions, the man will not be allowed to return to his property in the Adelaide Hills.

Prosecutors were strongly opposed to any form of bail and have now sought a review of Magistrate Fahey's decision.

The case is expected to be heard in the Supreme Court next week.
