Man who allegedly hid in roof arrested after two-hour police negotiation

A man allegedly hiding in the roof of a home has been arrested after a roughly two-hour negotiation with police.

The 30-year-old man was found, and two firearms as well as ammunition were seized, after police searched his Moncrieff home on Tuesday, June 16.

Police were initially refused entry to the home, before officers forced themselves inside and heard movement in a roof space.

After about two hours of negotiations, the man voluntarily exited the roof space and was arrested.

He was charged with failing to appear in court after a bail undertaking and faced the ACT Magistrates Court for a breach of bail that afternoon.

A comprehensive search of the home later located a foldable single-shot pistol, a shortened double-barrel shotgun, drugs, stolen number plates and capsicum spray.

Police are continuing investigations and more charges may be laid.

The man is set to return to court at a later date.

Anyone who has information about the possession of illegal firearms has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
