Man who allegedly flashed girls to fight charges

A man accused of exposing himself to teenage girls near the Fyshwick Officeworks store will fight the allegations.

Software engineer Arun Kumar Venugopalan, of Page, pleaded not guilty to a fresh charge of indecent exposure when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The new charge relates to an alleged incident on the same date and at the same location as an existing indecent exposure charge.

That charge, to which Mr Venugopalan has also pleaded not guilty, alleges he exposed himself to three 14-year-old girls who were walking near a dance school on the corner of Canberra Avenue and Whyalla Street, near the Officeworks, on October 17 last year.

The case was listed for a hearing, which is expected to take two days, starting on July 2.

Defence lawyer Paul Edmonds told the court the hearing would deal with "an identification issue".

Acting Chief Magistrate Glenn Theakston continued Mr Venugopalan's bail until his next appearance.
