Man who allegedly attacked woman with lit aerosol can appears in ACT Magistrates Court

A Canberra man is behind bars after he allegedly attacked a woman with a lit aerosol can last night.

Daryl Robertson, 52, is charged with intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm, and using an inflammable liquid to endanger life.

Mr Robertson was arrested by police after they were called to a home in Charnwood in Canberra's north-west.

Police said the alleged victim was badly injured, suffering stab wounds and lacerations as well as serious burns.

Officers said passers-by had called triple-0 to report hearing a woman's screams from a backyard.

Police said ambulance officers treated the woman at the scene, and Mr Robertson was arrested a short time later.

Today, he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court by video link, where he was formally charged with the two offences.

He did not apply for bail and has been remanded in custody.

The case will be back in court next month.
