Man who admitted pulling partner's hair, biting and strangling her faces prison

A man has admitted biting, strangling and punching his partner in Thornbury.

Jacob Riddell was due to face a three-to-four-day trial, starting May 12.

But he appeared at Bristol Crown Court and admitted wrongdoing.

The 26-year-old, whose address was given as Viscount Walk in Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to controlling or coercive behaviour, between June 14 and November 18 last year towards Aimee Debenham.

The charge encompasses numerous occasions when he pulled her hair, punched her, bit her and strangled her.

It also involves four assaults on her between July 26 and November 17 last year, the court heard.

Riddell also pleaded guilty to damaging Miss Debenham's mobile phone on November 17 last year.

Robin Shellard, defending, conceded it was a serious case and asked for sentence to be adjourned for a probation report to assist the sentencing judge.

The recorder Mr Richard Smith QC acceded to the request for an adjournment.

He told Riddell because of the particular seriousness of the more substantial charge it is "all-but-inevitable" he would receive immediate custody when sentenced on March 20.

Riddell was remanded in custody.
