Man wedged between two rocks for four days after falling into mountain crevice

A young man became wedged between mountain rocks in a tiny crevice for four days, according to reports.

Sum Bora slipped into the little rocky hollow after trying to retrieve his torch, local media say.

The 28-year-old adventurer plunged into the gap during an outing to collect bat droppings on Sunday, it's understood.

His family grew increasingly worried and eventually found him after three days.

And during the next day, more than 200 rescue workers carefully freed Sum by destroying bits of the rock in Cambodia.

He's since been taken to hospital but is not thought to have suffered serious wounds.

Rapid Rescue Company 711, which is connected to Prime Minister Hun Sen's elite military bodyguard brigade, led the huge operation, Cambodia's Fresh News said.

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world, with 35% of its 15.2 million people living in poverty, according to a UN Development Program report last year.

Bat droppings, or guano, are used as fertilizer and sold for supplementary income by poor farmers, who sometimes try to attract bats to their property.

In 2010 drama film 127 Hours based on the real-life story of climber Aron Ralston, James Franco's character found himself trapped alone in a canyon in Utah and had to perform DIY surgery to free himself.

Ralston was entombed alone in Bluejohn Canyon for five days and eventually cut off his own arm so he could escape in April 2003.
